waddling gait

waddling gait /wod″ling/ [ME, waden, to wade; ONorse, gata, way] , a gait characterized by exaggerated lateral trunk movements and hip elevations. It is observed in pregnancy and in patients with osteoarthritis of the hip or progressive muscular dystrophy.
