viral hemorrhagic fever

viral hemorrhagic fever, any of a group of severe multisystem syndromes caused by a virus. Typically, the illness is characterized by bleeding, which is usually not life threatening. However, viral hemorrhagic fever can cause a range of other symptoms from mild to life-threatening in severity, depending on the virus.
