vermiform appendix

vermiform appendix [L, vermis + forma, form, appendix, appendage] , a wormlike blunt process extending from the cecum. Its length varies from 7 to 15 cm, and its diameter is about 1 cm. Also called appendix vermiformis, cecal appendix, mesoappendix. See also appendicitis.
