ventricular hypertrophy

ventricular hypertrophy [L, ventriculus + Gk, hyper, excessive, trophe, nourishment] , abnormal enlargement of the heart caused by enlargement of the myocardium. It is often caused by hypertension, a valvular disease, or heart failure.
