upper GI (UGI), pertaining to the upper gastrointestinal tract, from the esophagus to and including the duodenum. The term is commonly applied to radiographic or fluoroscopic diagnostic views of the upper gastrointestinal tract after ingestion of a barium sulfate solution. Also called UGI, upper GI series.
