tranexamic acid

tranexamic acid /tran″ek-sam′ik/ , an agent that combats fibrinolysis by competitively inhibiting activation of plasminogen. It is used in prophylaxis and treatment of hemorrhage associated with excessive fibrinolysis, such as that after oral surgery in patients with hemophilia. It is administered orally or intravenously.
