thyme

thyme /tīm, thim/ [Gk, thymon] , the dried leaves and flowering tops of the herb Thymus vulgaris, which produces a pungent mintlike aroma. It is the source of a volatile oil, tannin, and gum, but is used mainly as a flavoring agent.
