therapeutic pneumothorax

therapeutic pneumothorax [Gk, therapeia, treatment, pneuma, air, thorax] , the intentional introduction of air into the pleural space, causing partial collapse of a lung. It was used in the 1940s for treatment of certain cases of tuberculosis. Also called artificial pneumothorax.
