testosterone /testos″tərōn/ , a naturally occurring androgenic hormone. 
INDICATIONS: It is prescribed for androgen deficiency, for female breast cancer, and for stimulation of growth, weight gain, and red blood cell production. CONTRAINDICATIONS: Cancer of the male breast or prostate, liver disease, pregnancy or suspected pregnancy, or known hypersensitivity to this drug prohibits its use. ADVERSE EFFECTS: Among the more serious adverse effects are hepatic dysfunction, fluid retention, masculinization, acne, and erythrocythemia.
