supervised fast /so̅o̅″pərvīzd/ , a hypoglycemic diagnostic procedure in which glucose levels are measured every 4 to 6 hours in a fasting person until they fall below 50 mg/dL. The fasting person is closely observed, and glucose values are rapidly determined and reported by the laboratory.
