sulfanilamide

sulfanilamide /sul″fah-nil′ah-mīd/ , a potent antibacterial compound. Although replaced as a systemic agent by more effective and less toxic derivatives and by antibiotics, it is still used vaginally in the treatment of vulvovaginal candidiasis.
