Streptococcus viridans

Streptococcus viridans [Gk, streptos, curved, kokkos, berry] , a poorly defined species of Streptococcus similar to S. pyogenes strains. It produces alpha-hemolysis in cultures and is a common cause of subacute bacterial endocarditis and other infections, such as gingivitis, in humans.
