stereotypy /ster″ē·ətī′pē/ [Gk, stereos + typos, mark] , the persistent, inappropriate mechanical repetition of actions, body postures, or speech patterns, usually occurring with a lack of variation in thought processes or ideas. It is often seen in patients with schizophrenia.
