starvation /stärvā″shən/ [ME, sterven, to die] , 1. a condition resulting from the lack of essential nutrients over a long period (several days) and characterized by multiple physiological and metabolic dysfunctions. 2. the act or state of starving or being starved. See also malnutrition.
