solution (sol., soln)

solution (sol., soln) /səlo̅o̅′shən/ [L, solutus] , a mixture of one or more substances dissolved in another substance. The molecules of each of the substances disperse homogenously and do not change chemically. A solution may be a gas, a liquid, or a solid. Compare colloid, suspension. See also solute, solvent.
