sequela /sikwē″lə/ pl. sequelae [L, sequi, to follow] , any abnormal condition that follows and is the result of a disease, treatment, or injury, such as paralysis after poliomyelitis, deafness after treatment with an ototoxic drug, or scar formation after a laceration.
