sensitive volume

sensitive volume [L, sentire + volumen, paper roll] , the part of an object from which a magnetic resonance signal is preferentially acquired because of strong magnetic field inhomogeneity elsewhere. This preferential acquisition can be enhanced by the use of a shaped radiofrequency field that is strongest in the sensitive volume.
