secretory component deficiency

secretory component deficiency, a failure of GI epithelial cells to produce secretory component, a glycopeptide occurring in secretory immunoglobulin A (IgA). It causes a lack of IgA in external secretions, such as tears, saliva, and colostrum, although serum IgA is normal.
