schistocyte

schistocyte /shis″təsīt/ [Gk, schistos, cleft, kytos, cell] , an erythrocyte cell fragment characteristic of hemolysis or cell fragmentation associated with severe burns, microangiopathic hemolytic anemias, and intravascular coagulation. Also called schizocyte.
