radioisotope scan

radioisotope scan, a two-dimensional representation of the gamma rays emitted by a radioisotope showing its concentration in a body site, such as the thyroid gland, brain, or kidney. Radioisotopes used in diagnostic scanning may be administered intravenously or orally.
