preload

preload /prē″lōd/ [L, prae + AS, lad] , the stretch of ventricular muscle fibers at end diastole. It is reflected by the ventricular pressure and volume at that part of the cardiac cycle. Cardiac output increases with preload. Also called preload filling pressure.
