predictive hypothesis

predictive hypothesis /-dik″tiv/ [L, prae + dicere, to say; Gk, foundation] , (in research) a hypothesis that predicts the nature of a relationship among the variables to be studied. Also called research hypothesis. Compare null hypothesis.
