potassium pump

potassium pump, a mechanism that involves energy-dependent pumping of potassium or the active transport of the potassium ion (K+) across a biological membrane using the energy of K+-activated adenosine triphosphatase. Also called K+ pump. See also calcium pump, sodium-potassium pump.
