phenol coefficient

phenol coefficient, a measure of the disinfectant activity of a given chemical in relation to carbolic acid. The activity is expressed as the ratio of a dilution of the chemical that kills in 10 minutes but not in 5 minutes to the 1:90 dilution of carbolic acid, which kills in 10 minutes but not in 5 minutes.
