phasic

phasic /fā″zik/ [Gk, phasis] , 1. pertaining to a process proceeding in stages or phases. 2. pertaining to a type of afferent or sensory nerve receptor of the proprioceptive system that responds to rate versus length changes in a muscle spindle. It is triggered by such stimuli as quick stretching, vibrations, and tapping.
