paronychia

paronychia /per′ənik″ē·ə/ [Gk, para + onyx, nail] , an infection of the fold of skin at the margin of a nail. Treatment includes hot compresses or soaks, antibiotics, and possibly surgical incision and drainage. Compare onychia.
