paratyphoid fever

paratyphoid fever /-tī″foid/ [Gk, para + typhos, stupor, eidos, form; L, febris, fever] , a bacterial infection, caused by any Salmonella species other than S. typhi, characterized by symptoms resembling typhoid fever, although somewhat milder.
