parathyroid hormone (PTH) test

parathyroid hormone (PTH) test, a blood test that is useful in establishing a diagnosis of hyperparathyroidism and distinguishing nonparathyroid from parathyroid causes of hypercalcemia. PTH is secreted by the parathyroid gland in response to hypocalcemia.
