ootid

ootid /ō″ətid/ [Gk, ootidion, small egg] , the nearly mature ovum after penetration by the spermatozoon and completion of the second meiotic division but before the fusion of the pronuclei to form the zygote. It is one of the four cells resulting from oogenesis. See also meiosis, oogenesis.
