one-way speaking valve

one-way speaking valve, a valve, placed on the end of a tracheostomy tube, that opens during inhalation and closes during exhalation so that the exhaled air is directed through the vocal cords and out the mouth and nose, allowing a person who has had a tracheostomy to speak.
