oncotic pressure

oncotic pressure [Gk, onkos, a swelling; L, premere, to press] , the osmotic pressure of a colloid in solution, such as when there is a higher concentration of protein in the plasma on one side of a cell membrane than in the neighboring interstitial fluid. Also called colloid osmotic pressure.
