noncompetitive inhibition

noncompetitive inhibition /-kəmpet″itiv/ , (in pharmacology) a form of inhibition in which a substance (drug) occupying a receptor cannot be displaced from the receptor by increasing the number of other molecules through the principle of mass action. The drug is irreversibly bound to the receptor.
