negative pressure

negative pressure, a less than ambient atmospheric pressure, as in a vacuum, at an altitude above sea level, or in a hypobaric chamber. Negative pressure may be used in wound healing or to help stimulate or cycle exhalation in intermittent positive-pressure breathing.
