myelogenesis /-jen″əsis/ [Gk, myelos + genein, to produce] , 1. the formation and differentiation of the nervous system, in particular of the brain and spinal cord, during prenatal development. See also neural tube formation. 2. the development of the myelin sheath around the nerve fiber. See also myelinization.
