mud fever

mud fever, a type of leptospirosis occurring in the summer and autumn in Germany and Russia, caused by Leptospira interrogans. It is transmitted to humans by the field mouse Microtus arvalis and affects mainly workers in swamps or flooded fields. Also called autumn fever.
