minimum lethal dose (MLD)

minimum lethal dose (MLD) [L, minimum, smallest, lethum, death; Gk, dosis, giving] , the smallest dose of a drug, relative to body weight, that will kill an experimental animal. The MLD may vary with the species of animal tested. Also called minimum fatal dose. See also median lethal dose.
