milk fever

milk fever, (Nontechnical) postpartum fever that begins with the onset of lactation and lasts only a few hours. It was formerly considered a normal reaction to lactation. Maternal oral temperature during the puerperium does not normally exceed 100.4° F (38° C); continued high readings may indicate infection.
