midgut

midgut [AS, midd + guttas] , the central portion of the embryonic alimentary canal, between the foregut and the hindgut. It consists of endodermal tissue, is connected to the yolk sac during early prenatal development, and eventually gives rise to some of the small intestine and part of the large intestine.
