meibomian gland

meibomian gland /mēbō″mē·ən/ [Heinrich Meibom, German physician, 1638–1700] , one of several sebaceous glands that secrete sebum from their ducts on the posterior margin of each eyelid. The glands are embedded in the tarsal plate of each eyelid. Also called palpebral gland, tarsal gland.
