maximum breathing capacity (MBC) /mak″səməm/ [L, maximus, greatest; AS, braeth + L, capacitas] , the maximum volume of gas that a person can inhale and exhale per minute by breathing as quickly and deeply as possible. Also called maximal breathing capacity.
