malleable /mal″ē·əbəl/ [L, to beat] , 1. able to be pressed, hammered, or otherwise forced into a shape without breaking. 2. a surgical instrument made of metal that can be molded to different shapes to assist in holding back tissues. Also called ribbon retractor.
