magnesium alginate

magnesium alginate, the magnesium salt of alginic acid, administered orally as a component of an antacid in the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease. It combines with gastric acid to form a viscous gel that floats on top of the gastric contents and acts as a physical barrier to reflux.
