ligases /lī″gāsəz/ [L, ligare + Fr, diastase, enzyme] , a group of enzymes that catalyze the formation of a bond between substrate molecules coupled with the breakdown of a pyrophosphate bond in ATP or a similar donor molecule. Kinds include synthetase enzymes.
