lampbrush chromosome

lampbrush chromosome [Gk, lampas, torch; AS, bryst, bristle] , an excessively large type of chromosome found in the oocytes of many animals. It has long, threadlike, projecting loops, giving it a hairy, brushlike appearance. See also giant chromosome.
