lambert (L) /lom″bert, lam″bərt/ [J.H. Lambert, German physicist, 1728–1777] , a unit of luminance or brightness of a perfectly diffusing surface, whether emitting or reflecting, equal to a total luminous flux of one lumen per square centimeter.
