lactase

lactase /lak″tās/ [L, lac + Fr, diastase, enzyme] , an enzyme that catalyzes the hydrolysis of lactose to glucose and galactose. Lactase is concentrated in the kidney, liver, and intestinal mucosa. Also called beta-galactosidase.
