iodized salt

iodized salt [Gk, ioeides, violet; AS, sealt] , table salt to which potassium or sodium iodide has been added to protect against goiter, particularly in regions where soil and drinking water have low iodine content. The iodides are added to achieve approximately 100 ppm.
