intoxication /intok′sikā″shən/ [L, in, within; Gk, toxikon, poison] , 1. the state of being poisoned by a drug or other toxic substance. 2. the state of being inebriated as a result of an excessive consumption of alcohol. 3. a state of mental or emotional hyperexcitability, usually euphoric.
