interleukin-2 (IL-2)

interleukin-2 (IL-2), a cytokine with various immunological functions, including the ability to initiate proliferation of activated T cells. IL-2 is used in the laboratory to grow T cell clones with specific helper, cytotoxic, and regulatory functions.
