inoculum

inoculum /inok″yo̅o̅ləm/ pl. inocula [L, inoculare, to graft] , a substance introduced into the body to cause or to increase immunity to a specific disease or condition. It may be a toxin; a live, attenuated, or killed virus or bacterium; or an immune serum. Also called inoculant. See also immune system.
